Trout Season Opening Day & Spring Events in the Sullivan Catskills 

Spring in the Sullivan Catskills means one thing: Trout Season. Anglers from all over flock to our pristine rivers, lively towns, and legendary fishing spots to celebrate this cherished tradition. With Opening Day on April 5th, 2025, the Sullivan Catskills are rolling out an incredible lineup of events, from casting lessons to culinary celebrations, music, and more. 

Here’s what’s happening on and after Opening Day to make your fishing season extra special: 

Opening Day Events – Saturday, April 5th 

Coffee, Breakfast & the Best Fishing Spots
7am at Junction Pool in Roscoe

Kick off your morning with The Catskill Fly Fishing Center & sponsors Butternut Grove Campsite & Roscoe Campsite Park for the annual First Cast &  complimentary coffee and a light breakfast for all!

Catskill Brewery’s Opening Day Celebration
11am to 6pm at Catskill Brewery in Livingston Mano

After a morning on the river, head to Catskill Brewery for an afternoon of festivities: 

  • Casting Lessons with Theodore Gordon Flyfishers 
  • cFly Tying Lessons from the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild 
  • Live Music by Michael Francis McCarthy 
  • No experience necessary – all skill levels welcome! 

Upward Brewery Fishin’ Buddy Annual Release Day
11am to 6pm at Upward Brewing in Livingston Manor

Enjoy a fun day at Upward celebrating Fly Fishing Season & the release of their easy drinking fishing beer, Fishin’ Buddy! As always, Upward Kitchen is open & cider, wine and spirits are available for non beer drinkers.

Dette Flies Season Opener Celebration 
8am to close at Dette Flies in Livingston Manor

Stop by Dette Flies in Livingston Manor for in-shop events celebrating the start of trout season. Whether you’re looking to stock up on gear or learn from the experts, Dette’s is a must-visit. 

Two Headed Trout Dinner 
6pm at The Rockland House in Roscoe, NY

Wrap up the day with a Sullivan Catskills classic: the Two Headed Trout Dinner at The Rockland House in Roscoe, NY at 6:00 PM

April 11th, 5:30 at Catskills Fly Fishing Museum in Livingston Manor 

The Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum is hosting a screening of the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T), showcasing the newest must-see fly fishing films.

June 14th in Livingston Manor

Mark your calendars! Livingston Manor’s famous Trout Parade returns on June 14th. This quirky, colorful, fish-themed festival is a local favorite, complete with floats, music, and plenty of fun for the whole family.
