June 17 - June 19

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until June 19, 2022

After a two-year hiatus, the gorgeous river town of Narrowsburg in the Western Catskills plays host to the Deep Water Literary Festival—a star-studded, three-day celebration of books, authors, and the creative spirit—to be held the weekend of Friday, June 17-Sunday, June 19. All events are free (tickets required in advance).

This year’s Festival theme focuses on a novel written by a teen runaway and unmarried mother that’s had an unparalleled influence on popular culture and our collective consciousness since its publication in 1818—Frankenstein Or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley. Two years into a global pandemic where the adage “science is real” has become a yard sign, this book interrogates what it means to be human at the precipice of the transhuman age.

The centerpiece of the festival is an exploration of Frankenstein featuring staged readings, performances, and a series of panel discussions featuring five-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, Joyce Carol Oates, and the 2015 Man Booker Prize winner, Marlon James, among many others.
