WCM’s 26th season brings the premiere of a WCM commission from Composer in Residence Harold Meltzer, Pulitzer finalist and composer of recent works for Orpheus, the Pittsburgh Symphony and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project; the first appearance of clarinetist Christopher Grymes, of National Sawdust in New York City; the return of violinist Mari Sato, as well as the first festival week appearance of violist Kathryn Lockwood, of the Lark Quartet and duoJalal; another bumper crop of young fellows, making new music on the spot; and music of Brahms; Debussy; Webern; Dvorak; and Alexander von Zemlinsky. All of this plus music for the first Best Picture Oscar, German expressionist director F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise.
