Mark your calendars for the first-ever ROAM Multi-Day Walking Adventure, hosted by the Sullivan O&W Rail Trail Alliance—a free, two-day hiking event happening Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th, 2025, in Wurtsboro.
Whether you’re an avid hiker or simply looking for a weekend immersed in fresh air, local history, and community, ROAM is the perfect opportunity to rediscover the outdoors. Plus, a camping option is available for just $15 per family if you want to keep the adventure going overnight.
What to Expect
Each day offers guided and self-guided walking options with scenic routes ranging from 4 to 12 miles. A complimentary shuttle service ensures flexibility—perfect if you want to shorten your trek while still enjoying the experience.
ROAM Weekend Schedule
Saturday, June 7
- 7:00 – 9:00 AM: Complimentary Breakfast & Check-In at Emma Chase School
- 7:30 AM: Guided Bird Walk to the D&H Canal Interpretive Center (6 miles)
- 8:00 – 9:00 AM: Self-Guided Walk option (6 miles)
- 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Explore the D&H Canal Interpretive Center
- 11:30 AM: Shuttle available to the Interpretive Center
- 12:00 PM: Lunch at the D&H Canal Interpretive Center
- 1:00 PM: Guided walk or shuttle return to Emma Chase School (6 miles)
- Afternoon: Free time to explore Wurtsboro
- Evening: Optional camping at Mamakating Little League Field ($15 add-on)
Sunday, June 8
- 7:00 – 10:00 AM: Pack up campsite
- 7:30 – 9:30 AM: Wurtsboro Volunteer Firemen Pancake Breakfast (pay at the door)
- 10:00 AM: Guided Walk to the Mamakating Environmental Education Center (3.5 miles)
- 11:30 AM: Tour of the MEEC
- 12:00 PM: Lunch at MEEC
- 1:00 – 2:00 PM: Optional shuttle to Emma Chase School
- 2:00 PM: Self-Guided Walk to Basha Kill Boat Launch trailhead (2 miles)
- 3:00 – 5:00 PM: Shuttle back to Emma Chase School
- 5:00 PM: Farewell and end of the first ROAM weekend
