The Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail GeoTour has officially launched, and you can embark on this exciting adventure anytime! Whether you’re a seasoned geocacher or new to the treasure-hunting experience, this interactive journey blends outdoor exploration with the region’s rich cultural history, making it a must-do activity for both visitors and locals alike.
What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a GPS-based treasure-hunting activity where participants navigate to designated coordinates to find hidden caches. As you explore the Dove Trail, you’ll collect secret codes that will ultimately lead you to the final treasure—a collectible geocoin, a cherished keepsake among geocachers.
How It Works Sixteen of the nearly 80 doves along the Dove Trail have been chosen for this geocaching adventure, with select doves containing a special code. To complete the trail, geocachers must gather these codes and make their way to the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) headquarters.
When you reach the SCVA Visitors Center (open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM), you can claim your geocoin in person. If you arrive after hours, simply scan the QR code on the Visitors Center window to access the virtual treasure box, and your geocoin will be mailed to you.

The Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail was created in honor of the legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival and celebrates the local artists who designed each unique dove. Originally launched in 2019 with 50 doves, the trail has since grown to nearly 80, with each dove telling its own story of peace, love, and music—echoing the spirit of the Woodstock era.
Many of the doves are located at local businesses, offering geocachers a fantastic opportunity to explore the Sullivan Catskills’ diverse attractions, shops, and restaurants. Whether you’re stopping for a bite to eat, browsing a boutique, or discovering a hidden gem, your geocaching adventure will be filled with unique experiences beyond the trail itself.
This GeoTour is open-ended, meaning you can participate at any time that fits your schedule.
Happy Geocaching!
