Outdoor Adventures in the Sullivan Catskills

Let’s embrace our new normal! The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association is here to guide you to exciting new experiences and discover nature while maintaining social distancing.

The benefits of enjoying the outdoors is endless. The joy of exploration can bring families together, improve mental and physical health, and will bring you peace and tranquility.

We are only 90 minutes from NYC and close to four international airports making access to our majestic mountains quick and easy.

The Sullivan Catskills great outdoors historically is a place where distancing from the world is normal. We have been a place to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and leave our stresses behind. We are a destination where you can immerse yourself in the mountains sitting by a campfire roasting marshmallows; enjoying a farm to table picnic lunch at one of our covered bridge parks; hike our terrain on one of our nature trails; nourish your spirit while soaking in our majestic views rafting along our National Park river, or indulge in Catskill culture while visiting our Dove Legacy Trail.  Whatever you desire for adventure, the Sullivan Catskills has an abundance of opportunities just for you.

Our outdoor trails are where you can immerse yourself in great adventure.  Whether you hike one of our picturesque trails, horseback ride through our mountains, or kayak and white-water raft on our pristine waters, we guarantee you will feel exhilarated and inspired to explore more.  Visit www.trailkeepers.com for a trail that best fits your ability and interest.

Want extreme adventure?  The Sullivan Catskills is known world-wide by champion cyclists for our daring road and mountain bike trails. We challenge you to rent or bring your own bike and test your endurance!  Or, undertake the longest zip line in the US, while soaring with our bald eagles along our National Park River.

Looking for a leisure adventure?  Golfing in the Catskill Mountains is a time-honored tradition. Tee up on one of our greens surround by unrivaled scenery. We have the perfect courses ,with club houses and pros, suited for your handicap.

The Villa Roma’s Golf Course is one of the newest in the Catskills, built in 1986. Golf Digest has called it “A little slice of heaven.” The course has matured into what is now the best fairways and greens in the region. The par 71, 6,514 yard course is a perfect challenge for the expert and the 6,200 to 6,350 yard course is well-matched for beginners, women, and juniors.

Peace, Love & Doves? We have a trail for the entire family. Grandparents, parents and kids all can join in together on this great adventure.  Our Dove Legacy Trail was established in 2019 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, held in Bethel NY.  There are 50 doves perched throughout the Sullivan Catskills, located in towns, villages and at local businesses.  Each Dove is unique and collectively they tell the story of our past, present and future.  Visit our Dove website page to download the trail map or participate in Dove contests that are fun for the whole family—you may even win a prize!

One thing is for certain, after a day of exploration you won’t leave hungry. The Sullivan Catskills has a variety of culinary options, from outstanding BBQ, authentic diners to Michelin quality farm to table cuisine, we have everything to satisfy your taste buds.
