Take To The Water—YOUR Way!

Nothing says unforgettable outdoor recreation more perfectly than a float trip on the mighty Delaware – the last major undammed river in the eastern United States.

The Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River is a unit of the National Park Service and a beloved waterway of breathtaking beauty. Millions have traveled to experience its restorative flow and wild beauty, encountering stately hemlock groves, massive sycamore trees, myriad animals and birds, imposing rock formations and abundant aquatic life.

In the Upper Delaware River region, bald eagles, blue herons, mergansers and mallards co-exist with black bears, white-tailed deer and coyotes, while many fish species, eels, lamprey and aquatic insects abound. All these and more make for an adventure not to be forgotten in a setting of incredible natural beauty.

Floating or paddling down the Delaware is an exciting and invigorating way to make memories that will last a lifetime and leave you eager to return. And the Sullivan Catskills has numerous providers to make your trip down the majestic river truly top notch.

Most operations run daily, April through October, accommodating small and large groups for several hours or several days. Gather round a campfire at riverfront campgrounds featuring tent or cabin camping; launch from various locations and enjoy the ease of being transported to drop-off and pick-up sites. Safety first!

No matter what vessel you choose when checking out the Sullivan Catskill’s abundant and pristine waterways, ALWAYS observe safety measures such as wearing a personal flotation device. Life jackets save lives.

The Delaware River may appear calm in some areas, but its powerful currents and steep drop-offs create a hidden force that will challenge even the strongest swimmers.

Keep tabs on river conditions by calling the Upper Delaware River Hotline at 845-252-7100, which provides river height, air and water temperatures, boating conditions and general river safety information. A recorded message is available 24 hours a day and is updated daily during the boating season.

For additional safety tips and emergency contact numbers, visit the National Park Service’s website.
