SUMMARY:Pilates Reformer Class
DESCRIPTION:Sign up required! Limited space. www.bodiesandplants.com/classschedule to join.\n\n*Brand new to the reformer? You’ll practice controlling your moving body on the moving carriage creating a beautiful partnership between you and the apparatus. You’ll work hard but you’ll also feel great! \nClass sizes are intentionally small so your teacher can suggest choices based on your needs.

SUMMARY:The Local Landscape: Visual and Political
DESCRIPTION:Robyn Almquist’s work will be on display at Domesticities from October 3rd – November 29th. There will be an opening reception on October 3rd from 2 – 4 pm. \nHer show will feature her hand printed linocuts\, paintings\, and mixed media pieces showing the local landscape as well as works with environmental and political themes. Almquist often combines linocuts with her illustrations and paintings in order to duplicate an image\, or to mix the mediums in a way that can reference animation or give the piece a pop culture style. \nA linocut block print is made by cutting the negative space of an image into a linoleum block. Each one is handprinted. The printing process is often slightly imprecise giving each print its own unique quality. Almquist learned this printmaking technique around age twelve and has been using it in her work ever since. \nRobyn Almquist is a local artist based in Livingston Manor\, New York. A Renaissance woman\, she is the publisher and creative director of ArtKill Catskill magazine and the lead singer\, ukelele and bass player in the band Open for Suggestions.

SUMMARY:Bach to Rock: A Cello Show with Alex Prizgintas at the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library
DESCRIPTION:Author\, historian\, and musician Alex Prizgintas of Orange County has built a career blending harmonies with the rich histories of composers and songwriters from decades past\, while pushing the classical cello into unique\, unexpected realms. The Poughkeepsie Journal recently wrote that Alex’s work both “inspires and amazes\,” while the Times Herald-Record states that “he pushes the limits.” They also wrote that he “brings his knowledge and interest in history and music together.”\n\nAccording to Alex\, “Most often\, cellists play concerts. I’m a little different in that I try to give a show.” Alex works to give a “show” that offers more give-and-take with the audience while sharing information about the background behind the melodies and the melody makers. “Some of my favorite selections in the Bach to Rock program include the Baroque cello suites of J.S. Bach\, Latin tangos such as Astor Piazzolla’s “Libertango\,” and opera selections like Donizetti’s “Una Furtiva Lagrima” and Verdi’s “La Donna Mobile\,” says Alex. “I enjoy the lyricism of opera\, especially when contrasted by the counterpoint of jazz by masters like Miles Davis\, John Coltrane\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and Dave Brubeck. And then\, there are times when I stray towards the rebellion of the mid-to-late 60s British Invasion with groups like Cream\, Led Zeppelin\, The Beatles\, Procol Harum\, The Kinks\, and The Zombies—to name just a few.”\n\n\n“Bach to Rock” with Alex Prizgintas will be shown at the Ethelbert B. Crawford Library in Monticello\, NY\, on Tuesday\, October 20th at 6:00 PM. With each performance\, Alex strives to communicate–not only with the cello but with the backstories that reveal interesting facts about each selection. “I have three rock selections with personal ties to Jimi Hendrix\, an explanation of Bach’s Preludes to each cello suite\, and where Dave Brubeck found inspiration for ‘Blue Rondo a la Turk\,’ just to name a few. Along with the tunes\, my goal is to build a better understanding and a deeper relationship with my audiences.” To learn more and see other video samples of his music and lectures\, please visit alexprizgintas.com
