In the heart of the Sullivan Catskills lies the oldest continuously operating summer theater, the Forestburgh Playhouse. Although in the midst of their exciting season, the remainder of the Playhouse’s lineup promises captivating performances that will entertain and enchant audiences, especially musical theater lovers! Already hosting performances this season of “Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits” and “How I Learned to Drive” and currently running their performances of “Jimmy Buffet’s Escape to Margaritaville” until July 14th, the Forestburgh Playhouse started off on a high note and is sure to deliver even more unforgettable performances this season. This musical follows four Brassy Broadway Stars on a mission to change the world and the love they discover that unites them all. They join forces with a courageous girl and the town’s citizens to build a Prom for everyone! Starring the Playhouse’s wildly talented NYC professional actors and Resident Company, The Prom will also feature The Prom-ensemble—a group of our best rising teen stars from the Sullivan Catskills and surrounding counties.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical: July 30th– August 11th
Before she was a hit-maker Carole King—she was Carole Klein, a spunky young songwriter from Brooklyn with a unique voice. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical takes you back to where it all began—and takes you on the ride of a lifetime. Featuring such classics as “You’ve Got a Friend,” “One Fine Day,” “Up on the Roof,” Natural Woman”, and more, this Tony and Grammy Award-Winning musical is filled with the songs you remember and a story, you’ll never forget.
Rock of Ages: August 13th-25th
Rock of Ages takes you back to the eighties, the time of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! Set in 1987 on LA’s famous Sunset Strip, this Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features the hits of bands including Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and more! Rock of Ages will get you out of your seats, dancing in the aisles and ready to party!
Hand to God: August 27th– September 1st
Hand to God takes place in a church basement in a small Texas town where the teens of the Christian Puppetry Ministry gather to bring the Word to the Flock. But one puppet takes on a foul-mouthed life of its own- unleashing the community’s barely repressed lust and darkest secrets. Like nothing you’ve seen before, this hilarious & blasphemous Broadway hit is a ruthless comedy you won’t want to miss!
Although Halloween seems like a world away in this summer heat, start preparing for the Forestburgh Playhouse’s production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Live! The cult classic show featuring iconic characters like Brad, Janet, Dr.Scott, Frank N Furter, and of course- Rocky, will show every Friday in October!
