As the Catskill Public Theater (CPT) wraps up its electrifying run of the show “Terror”, we hope that you’ll join them to watch the performance of their final three shows. Running next week on July 23, 24, and 25, this thought-provoking drama invites audiences to step into the shoes of a jury in a military tribunal. Directed by Leon J. Van Dyke, the play tackles a harrowing ethical dilemma: is a USAF fighter pilot who shoots down a commercial flight to prevent a 9/11-style terrorist attack at a sports stadium guilty of murder, or is he a hero dutifully following his oath to protect and defend the United States?
The Plot Unfolds
“Terror” centers on a military tribunal judging the actions of a fighter pilot who makes an unimaginable decision. With 170 lives on board a commercial flight and thousands more at risk in a stadium, the pilot’s choice leads to a courtroom drama that questions morality, duty, and the value of human life. The play’s unique structure allows the audience to act as the jury, casting their votes during intermission to determine the pilot’s fate. The second act then unfolds based on the verdict, offering two distinct outcomes that reflect the jury’s decision.
Be Part of the Show
In an innovative twist, CPT is recruiting local leaders and personalities to serve as one of the three tribunal judges for a single performance. This “Guest Judge” will join the Commanding Officer of the Defendant and a Federal Judge selected by the Secretary of the Air Force. This blend of a traditional court-martial and a trial by peers creates a compelling and authentic judicial process on stage.
