Support The Black Library: A Cultural Beacon in the Sullivan Catskills

In the heart of Monticello, The Black Library has transformed the historic National Union Bank building into a vibrant hub of culture, community, and education. Since its inception, The Black Library has exemplified how arts-based grassroots empowerment can instill pride, foster education, and build unity. Thousands of visitors have come through its doors to celebrate Black history and culture through gallery exhibits, open mics, music performances, fashion shows, and community discussions.

At its core, The Black Library’s mission is to celebrate Black culture and history while creating a collaborative, creative, and educational space for the residents of Sullivan County. The library carries a diverse collection of books by Black authors, exhibits visual art by Black artists, and offers educational workshops for children and adults. It welcomes residents and visitors of all backgrounds, promoting greater understanding of Black history and culture, advocating for racial justice, and serving as an incubator for the next generation of local artists.

As an advocate for equality and representation, The Black Library has become a beacon of progress, especially in a region where racial justice and diverse cultural expression are crucial. The library’s inspirational artist-in-residence program and its welcoming reading room have made it a dynamic space for fostering creativity, self-expression, and learning.
