Cocktail Recipes to Celebrate Woodstock in the Sullivan Catskills

Cocktail Recipes to Celebrate Woodstock in the Sullivan Catskills

This Summer, the Sullivan Catskills celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock. We invite you to celebrate with us by crafting these cocktails at home. If you’re not ready to unleash your inner bartender, visit one of our participating restaurants or bars serving up these special drinks (list below).

The Bobby McGee was appropriately named after the one and only, Janis Joplin. Robust with a sweet side – the hint of cinnamon syrup is divine. The Woodstock brings all the feels of the festival – fresh and full of flavor.

Cocktail Recipes

The Bobby McGee

2oz Catskill Provisions Honey Whiskey
¾oz Lemon Juice
½oz Cinnamon Syrup (see recipe below)
¼oz Maraschino Liqueur (they recommend Luxardo)

  1. Shake all the ingredients with ice, then fine strain into a double rocks glass filled with ice.
  2. Garnish with a lemon wheel or lemon wheel flag.

The Woodstock

2oz Prohibition Distillery Bootlegger 21 Gin
¾oz Lemon Juice
½oz Catskill Provisions Honey
¼oz Maraschino Liqueur (they recommend Luxardo)

  1. Shake all the ingredients with ice, then fine strain into a chilled coupe.
  2. Garnish with a cherry on a pick – or no garnish.

Cinnamon Syrup

Use 10-12 Cinnamon Sticks. There are two varieties (Ceylon & Cassia). Ceylon is preferable but Cassia works as well. It is also preferable to toast the sticks on high heat in the oven first. This gives it a nice toasted flavor but is also step you may choose to omit.

Break the sticks into small fragments by placing them on a tray, covering them with a towel and beating them with a wooden mallet or hammer. Once they are thoroughly broken down, add them to 2 quarts of boiling water. Allow this mixture to boil for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, chinois, cheesecloth, or coffee filter to achieve your desired clarity.  You should end up with a little less volume than the 2 quarts of water you started with due to evaporation and the cinnamon absorbing some of the water. Measure the remaining amount and then add an equal amount of sugar to it. Stir until fully dissolved and then add 1 ounce of Rum or Vodka to every quart of syrup made to fortify (keep it from going bad) it. The syrup should last up to a month or more if properly refrigerated.
