Borscht Belt: Rock Hill & Glen Wild

August 8 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free

Join us for the dedication of our 18th Borscht Belt Historical Marker exploring the origins of the Borscht Belt in Rock Hill and Glen Wild.

Before the dedication, explore the Rock Hill Farmers Market, featuring local farmers and artisans, a Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project pop-up, limited-edition Borscht Belt–inspired refreshments by Forage & Gather and Painters Hill Farm, and live music by Teri Paris, performing jazz standards, Broadway favorites, and selections from the Great American Songbook.

Throughout the day, the Borscht Belt Historical Marker Project team will be at the market sharing stories, answering questions, and talking with visitors about the history behind the new marker and the work of the Marker Project initiative.

At 12:00 PM, we’ll unveil the new historic marker in the garden outside Pizza the Rock. Speakers include Sullivan County Historian John Conway, Assemblywoman Paula Kay, and Naomi Jaffe, whose family’s Glen Wild property traces its roots to Gerson’s, widely recognized as Sullivan County’s first Jewish boarding house.

Free and open to all.
