Each October, we come together to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), honoring the invaluable contributions of workers with disabilities. NDEAM is not just a time for reflection, but a call to action—a reaffirmation of our commitment to ensuring that all Americans, including those with disabilities, have access to meaningful employment. In 2024, the theme is clear: “Access to Good Jobs for All,” underscoring the importance of inclusive workplaces where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive and advance in their careers.
The heart of NDEAM lies in grassroots efforts, with workplaces and communities across the country holding activities and events to promote awareness and change. Here in the Sullivan Catskills, we invite employers of all sizes, industries, educators, youth service professionals, business associations, labor unions, and disability advocacy organizations to join the movement.
How You Can Get Involved
In collaboration with The Center for Workforce Development and local disability agencies, Sullivan County is hosting a special event on October 24, 2024, from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Sullivan County Government Center lobby. This event will focus on bringing awareness to the barriers many individuals with disabilities still face in accessing competitive, integrated, and supportive employment right here in our county.
Participating in NDEAM is more than just attending an event. It’s about cultivating a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion. By actively creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities, you not only enhance your team with diverse perspectives and talents, but you also contribute to the growth and vibrancy of our community.
Join us on October 24th to learn how you can make a difference. Let’s work together to ensure that the doors to good jobs are open to everyone in the Sullivan Catskills
