The spirit of Woodstock is in our air, in our land and in the spirit of all who live and visit our marvelous Sullivan Catskills. 50 years ago, more than 400,000 women and men made their pilgrimage to Woodstock – “an Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music.” From near and far, Route 17B was lined with bumper to bumper traffic – full of a counterculture looking for a change, searching for answers, and ready to experience whatever the weekend would offer.

Now legendary musicians, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana, Richie Havens, Joe Cocker, Joan Baez, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & The Family Stone, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – and so many others graced our sacred Sullivan Catskills in Bethel, NY.

They infused a piece of themselves into the land. Music poured through them and into the people. Everything that was wrong and everything that was right about the ’60s was felt by each and every person who bared witness to what we now know as a festival that changed history.

Here we are, 50 years later. Woodstock 1969 was and always will be a one-of-a-kind, a once in a lifetime experience. No matter how hard anyone could try, there will never be an exact replica of the power, movement, and music of 1969.

To celebrate, the Sullivan Catskills will pay homage to our history, our land, and our people – locals and visitors alike. We celebrate the magnitude Woodstock had on our community – then and now.

Kick-off Woodstock weekend at Bashakill Vineyards. On Friday, August 16, 2-7pm, sit amongst the twinkling lights with food, drinks, and a great atmosphere to just hang out, chill, and enjoy. On Saturday and Sunday, August 17 and 18, 12-6pm, they’ll host a true black party. Sip on “Purple Haze” – a purple-blue color-changing cocktail and feast on farm-to-table tacos including the “Veg Head.” Local musicians will play live music both days from 2-6pm.

Benji & Jake’s

To celebrate the festival that took place just 4 miles away, Benji & Jake’s have created three signature cocktails – Yasgur’s, Woodstock Nation and Summer of Love. Each features local spirits including Prohibition Distillery and Catskill Provisions. Whether you were at the original festival in 1969 or your visiting for the very first time, put Catskill Distilling Co. on your list of places to visit. On Friday, July 19, 2-5pm, experience “Back to the Garden with Music and Memoir.” Original ’69 performers, Ira and Maxine Stone, will be playing acoustic music. Sharon Watts will be sharing and signing her illustrated memoir “By the Time I Got to Woodstock.”. Wear your tie-dye, fringe, and bellbottoms – it’s going to be groovy! On Saturday, August 17, 9pm-12am, Somerville will be playing Songs from ’69. Saturday nights in August feature live music around the fire plus, art everywhere… Stop by, tour and taste.

Hector’s Inn

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock at local dive bar, Hector’s Inn. Known for their cozy atmosphere, welcoming vibes and Woodstock roots, Hector’s Inn is a must when traveling in and around Bethel, NY. Grab a beer and your camera – if you’re lucky, you’ll chat with one of the old timers who have been traveling to Bethel since 1969. The Local Table and Tap

Listen to the sounds of the Woodstock generation at The Local Table and Tap. This summer, they’ll feature live music with local musicians singing covers of that era. Try their special cocktails – a “Flower Power” Martini and “Brown Acid,” a local Whiskey Sour.

Terrain & Table by The Farmhouse Project

Imagine a unique dining experience celebrating the land, food, community, and the Sullivan Catskills. This Summer, The Farmhouse Project will present “Table & Terrain,” a monthly dinner series featuring different chefs, venues and menus. One of which will be held at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on August 11, 3-7pm – with the harvest table set up on the famous field, only a few yards aware from where the iconic stage stood. Guests are bound to enjoy a sumptuous family-style seasonal spread, made from farm-fresh local ingredients and global flavors. Arrowhead Ranch

Here’s your chance to experience three unique music festivals in the Sullivan Catskills at Arrowhead Ranch. First up, a three-day music festival celebrating the music of the Grateful Dead, July 5-7 (camping available). On July 20, “Surrender to the Flow” – a tribute to the legendary Phish shows at Arrowhead Ranch in 1991, featuring the wizardry of Phish tribute bands, The Lizards and Bathtub Gin! For the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, they’ll present an authentic, old school event in the spirit of the Woodstock with four great bands recreating the music we know and love from the original mother of all music festivals (camping available).

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts

There’s only one place to be on the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock Weekend (August 16-18) – and that’s here in the Sullivan Catskills at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Friday, August 16, Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band will take the stage with special guests The Edgar Winter Band and Blood, Sweat & Tears. On Saturday night, August 17, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Woodstock legend, Santana, returns exactly 50 years after his groundbreaking Saturday afternoon festival performance. On Sunday, August 18, John Fogerty continues the 50th celebration with his iconic songbook – Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Who’ll Stop the Rain, Born on the Bayou” and Bad Moon Rising.  Inspired by the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and his iconic hit parade with Creedence Clearwater Revival, “My 50 Year Trip” recreates the sounds and spirit of 1969 with a set mirrored after his original Woodstock set with CCR, giving fans the entire Woodstock experience as if it was on August 16, 1969.

Beyond anniversary weekend, Bethel Woods will host a variety of concerts – country, classic rock, today’s top hits and so much more. Not to mention a slew of educational opportunities and programs.

The Museum at Bethel Woods

Immerse yourself in the spirit of the ’60s at The Museum at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Vibrant, interactive exhibits, programs, and events celebrating the 1969 Woodstock Festival and the entire decade that it came to represent. Plus, you’ll have the chance to see their 2019 special exhibit, “We Are Golden: Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival and Aspirations for a Peaceful Future.” The exhibit examines Woodstock and what the youth of 1969 wanted for the world and asks today’s youth what they are asking the world to do now. “We Are Stardust” (in the crossroads exhibit gallery) presents objects and interpretation related to the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing, an event which took place in July of 1969, just weeks before Woodstock. Spend an hour or a few, there’s so much to see in the Museum…

On Saturday, August 3, check out Producing Woodstock – a screening of a yet-to-be-released documentary about the creation of the Woodstock Festival. Shown on the very grounds where it happened, 50 years later, followed by a Woodstock-themed panel discussion with speakers who appeared in the film. On Wednesday, August 7, get your groove on at PLAY After Dark: The Music of 1969. Hang out, dance, listen, explore The Museum. If you show up in costume, admission is free! On Saturday, August 10, engage in a panel discussion with the people responsible for the sound production at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Bill Hanley, who was the sound engineer, joins Charlie Randall, President of McIntosh – the legendary American audio company whose amplifiers were used to power Woodstock – along with the people who worked with Hanley Sound to tell their personal stories and have a lively discussion moderated by John Kane about creating the sound system and working the festival to deliver audio for the live audience and recordings for posterity. This event is free with Museum admission.

Callicoon PorchFest

On August 16 & 17, the inaugural Callicoon PorchFest will be held in Callicoon. This 2-day music and art festival will commemorate the spirit of Woodstock featuring 50+ musical acts presented on front porches, stoops, lawns, and public spaces. Music, art, poetry, film, and performance – dozens of spaces turned into performing art venues for all to enjoy. Not to mention an Indie Mart, Pub Crawl, kids activates and more.

Delaware Valley Arts Alliance

The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance will debut, “Made in 1969” – mixed-media artwork made in 1969 or by artists who were born in 1969 (and have artwork made in 2019). The opening takes place on Saturday, June 22 and runs through Saturday, August 3.

Forestburgh Playhouse

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, Forestburgh Playhouse presents “Hair” (July 16-28) – a musical performance celebrating the ’60s counterculture. With an infectiously energetic rock beat, you’ll be grooving in your chair and singing along. Enjoy dinner or late-night cabaret, “The Summer of 69: Celebrating Woodstock” with themed menu items and cocktails.

Jeff Junction

Located in Jeffersonville is a charming shop full of authentic and licensed Woodstock souvenirs, local merchandise, gifts and more. Stop by Jeff Junction for a t-shirt, hat, button, and the list goes on.

Nutshell Art Center

On Saturday, August 3, 12-6pm, the Nutshell Arts Center will host a Woodstock 50 Art Show – a group exhibition of paintings, photography, sculpture, and mixed media by 30 artists from the tri-state area.

The Ragtime Clothing Exchange

Wander Lower Main Street Callicoon and stop into The Ragtime Clothing Exchange. You’ll find shelves packed with ’60s and ’70s vintage vinyl records at sale prices. Plus, ’60s and ’70s vintage clothing for sale and a themed window installation you just have to see…

Stray Cat Gallery

If you love Woodstock memorabilia, make your way to the Stray Cat Gallery. They’re planning a Woodstock Festival Gallery Show, August 10-23, with signed photos, prints, books by the artists who were there and much more. August 11-18, includes talks, documentaries, book and print signings, and an Art Show & Sale of Lisa Law’s amazing collection of photographs and books. Town of Bethel

Usher in the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock with a parade, live music and outdoor move on Saturday, July 27 in the Town of Bethel. The Parade kicks-off at 1:30pm. Live music starts at 4pm in the Firemen’s Pavilion and the outdoor movie is free and starts at 8:30pm.

Town of Bethel Post Office

Join the Town of Bethel Postmaster for a fun-filled Friday on August 17. The Woodstock Forever Stamp will be available to purchase, refreshments will be served. Take a selfie in the handpainted hippie VW photo booth, purchase a commemorative stamp and postcard. The Bethel Post Office is located inside Woodstock Oasis, 2166 Route 17B, Bethel.

Town of Mamakating

If you love the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail, you don’t want to miss the Town of Mamakating Guitar Trail featuring 18+ guitar cutouts decorated by local volunteers. In the Village of Wurtsboro, guitars will be on display in July with a gallery show in August where they’ll be available for sale. Stay tuned for more details…

Wurtsboro Art Alliance

On Saturday, August 3, 2-4pm, the Wurtsboro Art Alliance will host an opening reception for their Woodstock 50 Exhibit. The exhibit runs through September 1 featuring a variety of pieces that for sale, including some of the guitars that were on display in Wurtsboro.
