The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) is thrilled to reveal the 2024 recipients of its annual awards, honoring exceptional contributions to the region’s thriving tourism industry. These awards celebrate the passion, innovation, and dedication of individuals and businesses that have helped shape the Sullivan Catskills into a premier travel destination.
The awards will be presented at the SCVA Annual Meeting and Cocktail Party on December 5th, 2024, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
Meet the 2024 Award Recipients
STAR Award for Individual Achievement: Bill Hess, Seminary Hill
As Director of Orchards and Facilities at Seminary Hill, Bill Hess has become a cornerstone of the visitor experience. His meticulous care for over 1,500 apple and pear trees, commitment to organic certification, and holistic orchard management have elevated Seminary Hill’s reputation. Beyond his work in the orchards, Bill has overseen construction projects, led tours, and warmly welcomed thousands of guests. His unwavering dedication has made Seminary Hill a standout destination in the Sullivan Catskills.
STAR Award for Business Achievement: Mike Taylor, Holiday Mountain
Mike Taylor, owner of Holiday Mountain, has been instrumental in enhancing the Sullivan Catskills’ appeal as a year-round destination. Through exemplary operations, Mike has fostered local partnerships and drawn visitors from far and wide. This award highlights his commitment to transforming the region and creating memorable experiences for both residents and tourists.
TOAST Award for Exceptional Service: Katie McMyne and Irvin Sorto, The Eldred Preserve
Katie McMyne and Irvin Sorto are the heart of hospitality at The Eldred Preserve. Known for their creativity, reliability, and dedication, both Katie and Irvin consistently go above and beyond to provide guests with exceptional service. Their efforts embody the spirit of the Sullivan Catskills, leaving lasting impressions on visitors and locals alike.
Sullivan Catskills Ambassador Award: The Heron, Paul Nanni and Marla Puccetti
For 13 years, Paul Nanni and Marla Puccetti have showcased the Sullivan Catskills’ charm through their innovative culinary and hospitality ventures at The Heron in Narrowsburg. By delivering exceptional service and generating positive press, The Heron has elevated the region’s profile, making it a must-visit destination for food lovers and travelers.
Sullivan Catskills Emerging Business Award: Two Farms Brewing
The founders of Two Farms Brewing—Erika Malmgreen, Kent Findley, Mike Bruestle, and Shana Bruestle—have revitalized Mamakating with their innovative new business. As the first business to open in the area since 2019, Two Farms Brewing represents a promising future for local development.
