Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) Set to Unveil 77th Dove at Butternut Grove Campsite

Sullivan Catskills, NY – August 6th, 2024 – The Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association is proud to announce the unveiling of its 77th dove, a vibrant addition to the Dove Trail program, taking place this Friday, August 9th at 3pm. This latest installation will be located at the beautiful Butternut Grove Campsite and showcases the artistic talent of local artist Kim Simmons, who has been the artist behind over 10 of our doves, including #11 in the Village of Liberty, #40 in the Village of Wurtsboro, and #51 at White Lake Homes.

The Dove Trail program was launched in 2019 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Woodstock Festival, celebrating its enduring legacy of peace, love, and music. Each dove in the trail is meticulously hand-painted by a local artist, drawing inspiration from the bold and colorful works of Peter Max, and utilizing a 1969 color palette to echo the era’s psychedelic aesthetic.

“We are thrilled to unveil this beautiful new dove at Butternut Grove Campsite,” says Roberta Byron-Lockwood, CEO and President of the SCVA. “Our local artists do such an incredible job in capturing the essence of the Woodstock Festival in their artwork and we cannot wait to see what Kim has created on this dove. This initiative not only celebrates the anniversary of this legendary event but also raises awareness of the rich history and cultural significance of the Sullivan Catskills.”

The Dove Trail has become a beloved attraction in the Sullivan Catskills, drawing visitors from all over to explore the region’s scenic beauty and historical significance. Each dove serves as a reminder of the area’s vibrant past and its ongoing dedication to the values of peace, love, and community. Since its inception, the Dove Trail has significantly boosted local tourism, inviting people to explore the diverse and enchanting landscapes of the Sullivan Catskills and participate in our Passport Program, encouraging participants to take a photo at each of our dove sites.
