Bethel Woods 3-Day Itinerary | Peace, Love & Paddleboards

You came for one Sabato night at the Bethel Woods pavilion, standing on the exact ground where half a million people once sat in the rain. Stay for the lake swims, the creekside markets and the small towns that never stop humming.

Una grande folla si raduna in un luogo all'aperto dove si tiene un concerto al tramonto, circondata da alberi e da un cielo colorato.
It was almost called the Aquarian Music Festival.
Max Yasgur's 650 cows out-milked every farm in the county.
The Bindy Bazaar woods were Woodstock's original marketplace.
Candles at concerts? That ritual started here, in the rain.
For three days, Bethel was New York's third-largest city.
Day 1
Venerdì

Drop the bags. Get wet. Lake Superior State Park sits ten minutes from the pavilion: sand beach, $5 in, kayaks and pedal boats by the hour, no motors allowed.

Dry off at Benji & Jake’s in Kauneonga Lake, one mile from the Bethel Woods gate. Two decks over the water, brick-oven pizza, corn ribs, and the lake doing something ridiculous with the light around eight.

Tomorrow is loud. Tonight is not.

Day 2
Sabato

Coffee and eggs at Bethel Market Cafe on 17B, open at 7:30 and worth the baked-goods detour.

The Museum at Bethel Woods opens at 10. Give it two hours, then walk the field: the monument, the sloping green, the Bindy Bazaar trails where vendors traded beads between sets.

Early dinner at Cochecton Fire Station, small plates in an old firehouse. Then the lawn, the violet hills, and half a million ghosts.

Day 3
Domenica

Breakfast at Main Street Farm in Livingston Manor: good coffee, a smoked trout sandwich, seating out back over the water. Catskill Art Space opens at 11 a block away, free, with revolving art installations.

Then twenty-five minutes west to Callicoon. The farmers market runs 11 to 2, creekside, everything from within 75 miles. Take home something handmade from The Callicoon Pantry.

Leave slowly. Come back louder.

Una vivace scena di mercato all'aperto con varie tende allestite, persone che fanno acquisti e una rigogliosa vegetazione sullo sfondo sotto un cielo nuvoloso.
